About Jennifer
Jennifer M. LeGrand grew up in San Diego, California. She attended San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) part time while working full time as an administrative assistant at an insurance company. During Jennifer’s sophomore year at SDCCD she became a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society for maintaining a 3.5 GPA average.
Once, she was finished with her general education at community college she transferred to San Diego State University (SDSU) as a full time student where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foods and Nutrition. While attending SDSU she worked part time as a diet clerk at Country Hills Health Care Center, a 300-bed facility, and was an active member in the student nutrition organization (SNO) on campus. During Jennifer's last year at SDSU she was named to the Dean’s List in the College of Health and Human Services at San Diego State University in July 2012.
Her interest in nutrition began when her father was diagnosed with type II diabetes mellitus and after witnessing the dramatic health changes he experienced after making changes in his diet and lifestyle. This event in Jennifer’s life proved to her the importance of a healthy lifestyle and became determined to help others live a healthy life. She finds working in nutrition to be very rewarding and enjoys interacting with and educating the public on healthy eating habits.
After graduating from SDSU, Jennifer became a Diet Technician, Registered and obtained a second job at ElDorado Care Center, a 250-bed facility, while continuing to work at Country Hills Health Care Center. Jennifer enjoys working with the elderly and promoting healthy eating habits to her residents. After working in long term care for over two years Jennifer began to explore new opportunities in nutrition. She pursued a position in acute care and began working as a DTR at UC San Diego medical center, a 392-bed hospital, in Hillcrest. She enjoys working in acute care educating patients on their diets and is excited to learn more about the dietetics field. Jennifer completed her dietetic internship through the University of Delaware and passed the national registration exam for Dietitians. She currently works as a Consultant Dietitian at an adult day healthcare and long term care facilities in the San Diego area.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys practicing yoga, traveling, being outdoors and spending time with her family and friends. Ms. LeGrand focuses on disease prevention and health promotion while working with clients in the community. She believes a healthy weight is a key factor in maintaining optimal health. Jennifer enjoys working as a dietitian within the community knowing that she is playing a role in a person's life changing journey. Further down the road she plans to obtain her Master's degree in public health in order to become further involved in disease prevention and conduct research.
